March 16, 2016 at 7:09 Fresh wind slabs continue to form throughout the upper elevations of our area. These slabs will be sensitive to the weight of a skier or rider and you are likely to trigger a wind slab avalanche in steep open terrain today. Continue to assess windloaded areas before committing to a slope. The avalanche danger is CONSIDERABLE on steep wind loaded terrain above 6000 feet. Between 5000 and 6000 feet the danger is MODERATE. |

March 15, 2016 at 6:49 New snow, combined with moderate to strong winds, has formed fresh wind slabs at upper elevations. Continue to assess windloaded areas before committing to a slope. In favored areas of snowfall thin storm slabs may be found. Also, a layer of buried surface hoar exists 1.5 to 2.5 feet deep in the snowpack in some areas. The avalanche danger is MODERATE above 5000 feet but as snow continues to accumulate throughout the day the danger may rise to CONSIDERABLE. |

March 14, 2016 at 7:00 Strong ridge top winds continue to drift the new snow and create new, thin slabs and thicken existing slabs. Continue to assess windloaded areas before committing to a slope. A layer of buried surface hoar exists 1.5 to 2.5 feet deep in the snowpack in some areas. There is uncertainty in the distribution of this layer, which warrants careful site specific snowpack evaluation. The avalanche danger is MODERATE above 5000 feet. |

March 13, 2016 at 7:00 The avalanche danger is MODERATE. Strong winds and a bit of snow created thin, fresh wind slabs at upper elevations. Carefully evaluate wind loaded terrain before committing to a slope. Warm temperatures are expected again today. Watch for prolonged periods of sunshine to break down the surface crust and increase loose, wet avalanche danger. Additionally, there is some uncertainty in the distribution of a layer of buried surface hoar so it is important to perform site specific snowpack evaluation. |

March 12, 2016 at 7:01 Moderate to strong winds today with snow showers at upper elevations will add depth to recently formed wind slabs. Rain on snow today will weaken the snow the surface and increase the wet avalanche danger. Also, in recent observations a layer of buried surface hoar 1.5-2 feet from the surface is becoming more reactive which warrants careful snowpack evaluation. The avalanche danger is MODERATE rising to CONSIDERABLE with increased rain and snow today. |

March 11, 2016 at 6:45 Heavy, wet snow and strong winds created sensitive storm and wind slabs yesterday. Triggering a wind slab at upper elevations is likely due to continued strong winds. Allow lingering storm slabs to settle and also assess buried surface hoar. It is becoming more reactive in stability tests. Today requires careful snowpack evaluation, cautious route finding, and conservative decision making. The danger is CONSIDERABLE on wind loaded terrain at upper elevations and MODERATE elsewhere. Below 5000 feet, the danger is LOW. |

March 10, 2016 at 6:45 A warm, wet storm has increased the danger to CONSIDERABLE above 5000 feet. Snow, rain on snow, and strong winds will create dangerous avalanche conditions. Both wet and dry avalanche problems exist today. Human triggered and potentially natural storm and wind slabs can be expected to release on a rain crust. Loose wet avalanches are likely as snow levels rise. Buried surface hoar 1.5 to 2 feet from the surface could be a problem in some locations as well. |

March 9, 2016 at 6:26 The avalanche danger this morning is LOW. Pay attention to the softening of the surface snow as the day progresses. If we receive more sun than what is forecast the danger may rise to MODERATE on sunny aspects where it will be possible to trigger a wet snow avalanche on steep terrain. In alpine terrain wind slab instabilities may still exist on steep windloaded slopes. Remember, LOW danger does not mean NO danger (video). Practice safe travel protocols. |

March 8, 2016 at 6:57 The avalanche danger above 6000 feet is MODERATE. Our snow surface is saturated from rain and sunshine and it will be possible to trigger a wet snow avalanche on steep terrain. At the highest elevations of our area lingering wind slab instabilities still exist on steep windloaded slopes. Evaluate snow and terrain carefully before comitting to a slope. Below 6000 feet the avalanche danger is LOW.

March 7, 2016 at 6:57 The avalanche danger above 5000 feet is MODERATE. In most locations the snow surface is saturated and it will be possible to trigger a wet snow avalanche on steep terrain. Also be aware that recent strong wind gusts have formed fresh wind slabs in the upper elevations. In isolated areas a cohesive slab exists over a layer of buried surface hoar. Evaluate snow and terrain carefully before comitting to a slope. Below 5000 feet the avalanche danger is LOW.

March 6, 2016 at 7:00 The avalanche danger will begin MODERATE, but additional rain and snow today will cause the hazard to rise to CONSIDERABLE. Wet snow avalanche problems will continue with warm temperatures and continued rain. In the upper elevations look for fresh, reactive windslabs and pay attention to new slab formation at lowering levels as the day progresses. In isolated areas a cohesive slab exists over a layer of buried surface hoar.
