December 18, 2016 at 6:59 Increasing wind speeds yesterday afternoon and overnight have likely drifted snow and formed thin wind slabs on leeward aspects in alpine locations. These slabs will generally be found as isolated pockets in typical favored wind locations. The avalanche danger is MODERATE on upper elevation wind loaded terrain and LOW on all other slopes. Evaluate wind loaded terrain and look for signs of instability like cracking and collapsing. |

December 17, 2016 at 6:58 The avalanche danger is LOW on all slopes due to decreasing wind speeds overnight coupled with no new snow. Remember LOW danger does not mean NO danger" Due to recent variable wind direction isolated pockets of wind slab exist, especially in the alpine terrain. There is still a possibility to trigger an avalanche in these areas. Carefully evaluate wind loaded terrain at all elevations and look for signs of instability like cracking and collapsing. |

December 15, 2016 at 7:00 Another shift in wind direction with increased speeds occured overnight. A few days of settlement and drifting will make the snow less likely to move and form slabs, but sustained upper elevation winds in the mid-20s will do the trick. New and reactive wind slabs should be isolated to exposed slopes in the alpine. The avalanche danger is MODERATE above 6000 feet. Pay attention to obvious signs of instability in recently wind loaded terrain like cracking and collapsing. |

December 14, 2016 at 7:00 Moderate winds with occasional strong gusts over the last few days from variable directions have caused wind transport of mostly low density snow, but there has been little indication of slab development. Any windslabs formed will be variable in distribution and sensitivity and may be reactive to human triggers. The avalanche danger is MODERATE in windloaded terrain above 5000 feet, and LOW elsewhere. Carefully evaluate potential windloaded areas before committing to a slope. |

December 13, 2016 at 7:00 Moderate to strong winds drifted the recent snow and created a fresh round of slabs yesterday. Newly formed windslabs will be variable in distribution, but where present will be sensitive to human triggers. The avalanche danger is CONSIDERABLE in windloaded terrain above 6000 feet, and MODERATE elsewhere. Carefully evaluate potential windloaded areas before committing to a slope. |

December 12, 2016 at 6:55 Wind speeds increased overnight forming dense slabs on top of low density surface snow on exposed upper elevation leeward aspects. The arrival of the arctic air mass will result in northerly winds and atypical loading patterns. The avalanche danger is CONSIDERABLE above 6000 feet on exposed leeward aspects where human triggered avalanches will be likely. MODERATE danger exists on all other aspects. Evaluate all slopes before recreating on them. |

December 11, 2016 at 6:48 Wind slabs have formed on top of low density snow on upper elevation leeward aspects. Increasing winds today will thicken these slabs. The avalanche danger is CONSIDERABLE above 6000 feet on leeward aspects where human triggered avalanches will be likely. MODERATE danger exists on all other aspects. Today's relatively warm dense snowfall will be deposited onto cold low density snow which may form storm slabs. Evaluate all slopes before recreating on them. |

December 10, 2016 at 6:58 Rising avalanche conditions exist due to relatively warmer denser snow being deposited onto cold low density snow forming storm slabs. Increasing winds will form fresh wind slabs on leeward aspects. We will start the day with MODERATE avalanche danger above 6000 feet but this will rise to CONSIDERABLE as the day progresses. Human triggered avalanches will become likely as snow and wind continue. Evaluate all slopes before recreating on them. |

December 9, 2016 at 7:00 Several generations of wind slab were created on multiple aspects in the alpine this past week. In isolated areas weak snow buried 1.5 - 2 feet deep exists in the snowpack. The avalanche danger is MODERATE above 6000 feet. Human triggered avalanches are possible. Continue to evaluate recently wind loaded areas. Pay attention to signs of instability like cracking and whumfing. Also, dig into the snow to look for buried weak layers and choose simple terrain where they exist. |

December 8, 2016 at 7:00 The avalanche danger is MODERATE above 6000 feet. Human triggered avalanches are possible on wind-loaded terrain and in locations where weak layers may be buried deeper in the snowpack. Given our wind patterns the past few days, these wind slabs may have formed on aspects that are not typical for the region. Take a little extra time and dig into the snow to look for buried weak layers and choose safer terrain where these weak layers exist. |

December 7, 2016 at 6:50 The avalanche danger is MODERATE above 5000 feet. Heightened avalanche conditions exist and human triggered avalanches are possible due to freshly formed wind slabs and weak layers buried deeper in the snowpack. Carefully evaluate wind loaded areas, especially at upper elevations, before committing to any slope. Dig into the snow to assess deeper weak layers, and choose conservative terrain where these weak layers exist.
