January 15, 2016 at 6:55 The avalanche danger is HIGH above 6000 feet and CONSIDERABLE below. Dangerous avalanche conditions exist. The Swan Range received over 30 inches of snow and 5.2 inches of SWE in the past 48 hours. This is a huge load for any snowpack. Even though snowfall has tapered for the last 12 hours, both natural and human triggered avalanches are likely. Travel in avalanche terrain is not recommended. Stay off of and out from underneath slopes steeper than 30 degrees. |

January 14, 2016 at 6:44 The avalanche danger is CONSIDERABLE for the Whitefish, Flathead, and Glacier Park ranges. Heavy, dense snow fell over the past 24 hours and continues today. This new snow is falling on recently buried weak layers and rain and sun crusts. Dangerous avalanche conditions exist and cautious route finding and conservative decision making are essential. Human triggered avalanches are likely and natural avalanches are possible. An avalanche warning and High danger is in effect for the Swan Range. See advisory. |

January 13, 2016 at 7:19 Today, the avalanche danger will begin as MODERATE but may rise to CONSIDERABLE by the end of the day above 6000 feet, especially on wind loaded terrain steeper than 35º. Today's snowfall and moderate winds will form slabs on top of crusts and near surface weak layers. Human triggered avalanches are likely with natural avalanches possible. Carefully evaluate the snowpack before committing to any slope, particularly in steep, wind loaded terrain. The avalanche danger is MODERATE on all other terrain. |
