Snow pack conditions are highly variable across the advisory area. Recently observed instabilities include: near surface crust/facet combinations, isolated buried surface hoar, lingering windslabs, and in some areas deep instabilities formed early in the season.  Our variable and tricky snow pack warrants careful, slope-specific evaluation before skiing or riding on it.

Moderate to strong southwest winds increased overnight forming slabs on top of crusts and low density snow at upper elevations.  Continued windy conditions will thicken these slabs throughout the day. Several buried weak layers remain a concern and require evaluation before committing to consequential terrain. A human triggered avalanche remains possible and practicing safe travel techniques is recommended.

The avalanche danger is gradually trending down following a significant storm and noteworthy deep slab avalanche cycle. Buried weak layers are slow to adjust though; a very destructive deep slab released naturally in the vicinity of Monday night.  Heightened avalanche conditions warrant careful terrain selection and snowpack assessments; expect the danger to rise again tomorrow.

The bountiful storm cycle is over but lingering storm slab instabilities exist, particularly in areas favored during the Friday/Saturday storm. The likelihood of a human triggered storm slab is decreasing but still possible on steep slopes. In areas that harbor a shallow snowpack It remains possible to trigger a very large avalanche on buried weak layers. With the complexity of problems in our snowpack it is best to travel with a conservative mindset until our snowpack adjusts to recent loading.
