Avalanche specialists from the USGS/NPS Going to the Sun Road Program toured up the NW face of Mount Cannon today. High point was at 5800 feet elevation. Wet snow conditions throughout the tour. At 5800 feet there was about 5 cm of moist newer snow from the 4/3 storm sitting on top of a melt freeze crust that was supportable on skis.

We found mostly stable snow today and no new avalanche activity. The most recent avalanche activity consisted of small wet loose avalanches (up to D1.5) that most likely ran on Tuesday (4/4) when it was warm and sunny. These were observed on multiple aspects and mostly above 5000 feet elevation.

Also observed debris from multiple old avalanches (up to D3) from avalanche cycles earlier in the winter.
