Wet Avalanches - Apgars

Went for a windshield tour up the North Fork road to look at the west side of the Apgars this afternoon.

• Roller balls were common on both south and southwest, as well as northeast and east facing road cuts and at low elevations. I saw over a dozen small loose wet avalanches on both sides of the road. most on southwest facing slopes starting below 5,000 feet.
• I saw approximately 10 large loose wet avalanches on south, southwest, and west faces. Some of these began mid slope, around 5,000 feet, and many began near the top of the ridge between 5,500 and 6,000 feet. All of them started near rocky areas or trees. Most ran 1/3 to 1/2 the length of their tracks, stopping mid-slope.
• One larger wet slide ran down 3/4 of its track, almost to the river, while I was taking pictures of another path.
