Don't worry--despite the recent loading, there's still plenty of crust to go round in the southern Whitefish Range. We traveled south through the WMR backcountry to Big Slide, noting newly deposited surface hoar as we went. The melt/freeze lurking under the upper 15-20cm of snow was occasionally supportive, occasionally scrapey, and not present in some sheltered N and E aspects . Said crust failed under moderate force with low shear quality in a compression test, and did not propogate in another. Towards the end of the day, we got heavily rimed, which bodes well for keeping the Twelve Days of Crustmas going, even into the new year.
