Quick Observation
Skied Kona from the top. Minimal sluffing. No cracking, settling, or audible cues. About half way down we could feel a crust that wanted to trap your tails. This proved to be a thin ice layer with 8" of new snow on it. Below it was 18" of loose snow on top of a resistant crust. The thin layer was not present above 6,000 ft. A rain crust?
The big news was a set of bear tracks from the top of Kona to the bottom with continuation into Canyon Cr. Another party saw the tracks coming up Creek 3. Assessed them to be Grizzly due to size, depth of the trench, claw marks, and habitat.
