Today's near-surface facets - tomorrow's weak layer?

Day off tour in search of soft snow. We chose a northerly-facing bowl that's sheltered from strong easterly winds. 

• 1-15 cm of recent snow (April 8-10) above the April 8 Melt-freeze crust. Much of this is faceted after this week's cold days and clear nights. The facets are most developed where this snow is shallow and at low elevations (< ~5200 feet). 
• The snow surface showed signs of being wind-disturbed or wind-damaged earlier this week. Most of the wind-damaged and drifted snow had faceted, except for hard drifts that filled old tracks. We found a few soft drifts less than a foot thick on the lee (west) sides of cross-loaded gullies. More open areas of the bowl sometimes held a thin (<2cm) wind crust at the surface. This was more common as we climbed above ~5500'.
• We saw debris from one recent (this week) small loose snow slide (avalanche tab). 
• The incoming storm made itself apparent as the day progressed (snowpack and weather tab), though no snow fell while we were out. 

The faceted snow above the supportable melt-freeze crust made for good turns but sometimes difficult skinning, especially on the access trail. They might also make for reactive weak layer when loaded with new or drifted snow.
