Found quite the layer cake on a NE facing slope at 6400 feet in the Southern Whitefish Range. Two notable surface hoar sightings. One sparkling on the surface and another so very well preserved less than a foot below the surface. The thick November 19th rain crust, and the crust buffet below seem to be serving as quite a facet factory above unfrozen ground. It will be fun to watch how these layers all play out as the season progresses.
While the 70 cm of snow provided for some dodgy skiing, the story beneath the surface, sunhine and all those sparkles made for a very pleasant walk.
