toured skook ridge today. highly variable weather, sunny, windy, calm, snow.
skinned up from saddle on west end. Thick freeze thaw crust that was stable and supportive. needed crampons as new snow was not bonded and sidehill was challenging. new snow was 0-4 inches depending on aspect. wind loading and cornices on northern aspects and wind deposited snow. on south faces we saw several old wet loose slides from last warming events. on on south face of Dorthey was powerfull and carried down large trees.
We decended down eastern face of skook ridge. snowpack seemed stable, no eveidence of slide activity today.
