Surprisingly large storm totals at Red Meadow

Observed several D1 natural storm slab and loose dry avalanches between 5,000'- 6,000' failing on a 1-2" rain crust. These avalanches were confined to steep, convex slopes. Skier triggered a loose dry avalanche on a steep, east aspect above 6500'. It ran for approx. 400' - 500' downslope, didn't propagate outward but entrained a larger volume of snow than avalanches observed in the 5000-6000' zone. Overall, observed good bonding of new snow to old snow above 6,000'. Minor cracking noted below skis while skinning and skiing without shooting cracks. A thin sun crust was observed on sunny aspects below the new snow.
