We covered a lot of aspects and elevations today, with quite a bit of variability. Of note: at 5500 on an forested, east aspect while ascending Sub-Sheilds, the snow surface remained soft except for where it had been affected by tree bombs. By 5800 and above, most solar aspects had a 2-4cm diurnal crust in the surface snow. We noted surface hoar formation from .5-1cm on ridgetops and sheltered areas (such as the valley between Shields and Snowslip). A quick pit on the north side of Snowslip resistant shear qualities, primarily within recent storm layer interfaces (CT15 40cm down Q3, CT25 75cm down Q3) Significant loading/scouring was present in alpine zones like the N face of Snowslip and NE face of Running Rabbit.
