Quite the show

We took advantage of the great coverage in the Middle Fork to enjoy a day off. Today, a poor refreeze overnight and forecasted warm temperatures kept us on lower angle northerly slopes without overhead hazard. 

• We heard or viewed 30+ wet loose slides on steep slopes at mid and upper elevations on east and south aspects. The parade of slides started around noon and continued through our 2:00 p.m. exit. 8-10 of these avalanches ran over 1000 vertical feet and deposited debris piles D1.5 - 2 in size. We assume the thundering roar moved to the north and west after our departure.
• Smaller wet loose slides and fields of rollerballs were testament to Saturday's activity.
• Last week's snowfall on April 19 and 21 contributed to these slides.
• Even at low elevations, good coverage confirms that the spring ski season will last in this area for several more weeks.
