Out for a quick ski up Rescue Creek today. Old uncohesive powder was holding together well in wind-protected and shaded northerly pockets, with refrozen crusts everywhere else... and anything that recieved even a touch of sun was getting sloppy quick. Each of the south-facing chutes as well as the main paths off of Penrose's east face had loose wet avalanche debris left over from yesterday's warm-up (photo). At noon-on-the-dot the first of the wet-loose avalanches began tumbling down the southern aspect, and they continued every few minutes for the remainder of the time we were out (until ~1:30pm). Most of the loose-wet avalanches were D.5-D1 in size with the exception of a D2 roaring out of one of the tubes on the eastern end of the drainage. After seeing that and noticing a few rollerballs in the northerly pockets, we opted to ski while the skiing was still good and headed out.
