Quick Observation
Took a quick tour to 6800' in the Essex area to assess snowline from yesterday's rain event
Most recent rain crust present to 5200' (<1" crust)
Above 5200' we found up to 8"-10" of fresh, creamy powder
Moderate SW winds were transporting recent snow to leeward slopes along ridgeline
Wind slabs were sensitive near wind pillows, generally 1ft thick and soft, reactive to stomping, but relatively stubborn
No signs of instability or avalanches
On descent, rain crust was softening underneath accumulating snowfall below 5200', and was therefore 'skiable'
