A heavy wet storm on the Rocky Mountain Front deposited 18 inches of snow, with 1.8 inches of SWE starting on 12/22/21 and continuing into 12/23/21. On the morning of 12/24/21, the storm weather broke, and with good visibilty, a natural avalanche was noticed by a student in a level I course while driving to Teton Pass Ski Area. While on the course digging pits on a North aspect, students experienced whoomphing while travelling. Additionally, the students witnessed 2 other backcountry skiers, and a very recent avalanche that we presume they caused in the backcountry just North of the ski area boundary today(12/24/21). The skiers were not caught, and proceeded to hang out for 20 minutes before skiing down.
Driving to Teton Pass Ski Area, and touring within the Teton SUP area with an avalanche level I class
2 seperate events. One natural which was not observed or looked at closely. One witnessed close by, with no knowledge of details other than what we could see from 1/2 mile away.
