Just some boring soft slabs.

Today we went into Skimuah drainage to see if we could find any more deep slab avalanches and assess how the new/old snow interface is holding up. We traveled on south facing slopes up to 6000' in elevation.

• Found roughly eight recent avalanches on northern aspects. Three of them were large enough to bury or injure someone.
• Low elevation debris piles were wet. I think they started as dry, and as they entrained snow into lower elevations, they became wet.
• Minor cracking underfoot but no results on test slopes.
• 2 to 8 inches of new snow sitting on a melt-freeze crust. New snow is bonding well to this crust. No propagation in ECTs. 

We traveled in wind sheltered locations, so we never saw evidence of wind slabs. I anticipate by the sound of the wind up high they were present at upper elevations. The forecast matched what we were finding at mid-elevation, south-facing slopes, which made us comfortable skiing avalanche terrain with slope angles up to 40 degrees. We gave the runout of Mt. Penrose a wide berth after seeing that it had not run yet.
