Checked out how bad conditions were. Observed many natural avalanches that had happened early this week 1/11-1/12. Some were large on east aspects, smaller on NE aspects. Dug a pit @ 7100 NE ectp12 20cm on crust, ectp21 40 cm buried surface hoar, well preserved, clean prop. That turned us around. Kept it to mellow slopes, North -NE had a skiff of snow on a supportive crust. Sw was breakable crust and difficult skiing. Clear skies, ridge top winds 10-15.
Toured in southern glacier. Found a selection of crusts from breakable 2-4 cm. To supportive and robust 4-6 cm. Ski crampons were used.
