We headed into the Jewel mindful of recent storm conditions and the ever consolidating slab atop the layers of various nonsense from earlier this season. Best parking was at the Switchback Trailhead, as after that, snow depths on the road rapidly ramped up.
We found nearly every aspect wind affected, with warming and consolidation evident especially to the west of Black Lake where we did most of our skiing. Hand shears and pit tests (around 6000ft) showed evidence of weak layers (graupel and buried surface hoar), yet we weren't able to produce propogation in the pit, nor did we see any sign of shooting cracks or recent natural slab activity. Strangely, the nicest skiing of the day was found as we headed back down from Aenous Notch towards Camp Misery.
