Went into the Jewel Basin and dug an ENE facing pit at ~6,300 feet. Total snow height 160 CM. ECTN at 25cm down on a wind crust from those NE winds last weekend, otherwise no propagation. Faceted snow at the bottom of our pit was stronger and better bonded than previous recent pits closer to the divide.
It was snowing and foggy all day with 4-6" very dry, light powder on top of the recent storm snow. We could not assess recent avalanche activity from the last cycle due to poor visibility. We performed several ski cuts on NE 35-38 degree test slopes between 6,000-6,800' with no results. SW winds were only blowing at the ridge tops with fresh wind slabs forming and breaking/cracking under our skies at the ridge top. Otherwise great powder skiing.
