We headed out to Sub-Shields keen to enjoy the new snow while minimizing our exposure to the persistent slab problems. Dug twice; our first pit on a SE aspect @ 6500ft featured a total depth of 80cm, with a medium density wind slab above the crust sandwich and well developed facets below. We saw propagation with energy upon moderate force, so we stuck to the ridge. Our second pit was on a NE aspect at 6800ft, featuring nearly twice as much snow that was generally right side up from the ground. Winds were light throughout the day and the temps stayed below freezing.
