Quick Observation
Widespread crop of surface hoar on eastern aspects from 6000-7000'. Our observations were limited to this aspect and elevation but I wouldn't be surprised to find this layer elsewhere.
This layer topped a variety of surfaces including thin sun crust, windboard, and in some spots even a couple inches of unconsolidated snow.
The sun had already put a hurting on this layer by early afternoon, but I anticipate it survived in sheltered areas.
No recent avalanche activity.
No obvious signs of instability.
We skied slopes less than 30 degrees.
