Better than sitting home whining

We enjoyed a walk in the nation's tenth national park, set aside by President Taft in 1910. William Howard is the only person to hold the office of president and chief justice of the Supreme Court. He was also the nation's most obese president, but I will save that story for a post-Lent observation.

• Below 4000' the snow surface was supportive this morning and slightly less this afternoon.
• Between 4000' - 5500' the top 8-10" of snow was moist on northerly slopes where we easily produced numerous rollerballs on the way up and down. On easterly aspects, the mush was slightly thinner, but we still generated numerous rollerballs on the descent. Most natural wet loose activity seemed to have occurred during last weekends warmup.
• Windward aspects above 5000' provided fun corn skiing.
• Numerous hours of above freezing temperatures warmed and weakened cornices. These broke easily under the weight of a skier. No natural cornice fall of note was observed.
