An anonymous skier accidentally triggered a small wind slab yesterday and was kind enough to share the experience with FAC.
"At about 5850', I encountered suddenly thickening slabs. 3-5" I decided this was a red flag for me and I began to feel uncomfortable. I wanted to bail, but I also didn't want to take my skis off to transition in fear of upsetting the snow more with boot penetration (mid elevation persistent slab hazard). I quickly identified a place not far above me (~50') that I felt would be a slightly safer spot to transition. The slope angle looked to ease off a bit and there was a small tree there. As I worked towards this spot the winds went from near calm to gusting 20-25. Swirling and blowing back and forth, irregularly loading all aspects. As I climbed towards this spot the slope cracked. Propagating 10 feet above me and 40-50 feet on both sides of me. I moved with the blocks for about 30 feet before I threw a pole and grabbed a willow to arrest."
