1/24 crust N. WF range

Today we rode in the Northern WF Range.

• We found good riding with the nearest crust buried by 20 cm of day old powder(1/24 crust).
• The 1/24 crust was the most reactive today.  This crust is 1 cm thick, knife hard and we saw failures on top of the crust.  We had easy/moderate propogation in our pit at 6100'(ECTP 10 and ECTP 14).  Abundance of this crust seemed to be on all aspects and all elevations up to 6500'.  We did not travel above that.
• On steep convexities the 1/24 crust was easily triggered by the weight of a rider.
• It was also easy to trigger surface instabilites running on a graupel layer from monday 1/27.  (2-3 inches of slough)
• The MLK crust is present and still has facets below it.  However, it was not reacitve in our tests.  
• We did see evidence of two avalanches that had reached the road on the west side of Red Meadow Lake.  They appeared to be wet/loose from saturday that had slid on the 1/24 crust and piled up on the road.  Not large compared to the slide path they were in (D-1/1.5) but put down a few feet of debris on the road.  
• Accounting for our pit data and clues on the skin up we chose to stay off of steep rollovers.
• Temperatures today hovered around 30 degrees F.
• In very exposed area we saw evidence of wind transport as well as substantial crossloading on the N. side of Red Meadow Pk.
