Variable Mt. Brown

3" new snow above 5,000 ft with winds out of the SSW 8-10mph @ 7,000ft and very light snowfall starting mid-day. A thin raincrust was observed between 5,200-5,400 ft, wet snow below 5,200 ft and rollerballs on the surface at 4,000ft during our descent. Soft wind slabs have formed on leeward and crossloaded aspect, 3-6" thick between 6,100-7,400 ft. Snowpack structure at elevations above 6,000ft consists of a strong mid pack with basal facets 30cm above the ground and new F/4F hard within the top 20cm. Frequent pole probing across the terrain confirms the presence of the facet layer and varying mid pack depths. Test results on a SW aspect @ 6100 ft, ECTN5 down 10cm where new soft wind slab has formed on top of old surface, ECTN 27 down 20cm, ECTP 30 at the bottom of the facet layer - on the ground. Results on a SE aspect at 7,1000ft showed, CT7 RP down 10cm, ECTN13 down 20cm.
