- Toured up Going to the Sun Road (GTSR) today to have a look at Red Rocks and 54-1 avalanche paths. Ascended and descended 54-1 but poked into Red Rocks to dig a quick pit and assess current conditions.
- Experienced a spring variety of weather from overcast skies and light rain to brief S2 graupel storms and thick obscuring clouds to broken skies and warming temperatures.
- Non-frozen, wet snow below 5500' with a noticeable melt-freeze crust developing above that elevation
- Observed natural loose wet activity on solar aspects starting around 1 pm and continuing as we exited. All seemed to originate below the 5500' refreeze line.
- Larger natural loose wet avalanche cycle estimated to be from last weekend's rain event noted within the Red Rocks avalanche path depositing approx. 7 m of debris across 40 m of GTSR.
