Stanton Mountain

Great traveling both days. 2-3 inches of light recycled powder down low on the trail. The rain crust was prevalent up to 5700 feet, becoming less noticeable higher up, and completely gone by 6000 feet. Isolated areas of slightly reactive windslabs up high. Did not encounter an alarming amount of areas with these cracking slabs. Although the wind affected terrain was widespread, the areas showing reactivity were few. I have attached a pit graph of one of the pits we dug on Feb 13th, 2018. Despite the relatively deep pack we have elsewhere around other parts of the advisory area. The slope we sampled represents shallow areas below the top of the ridge that are scored by southwest winds throughout the season. We dug two pits at 6368. Both pits were located on moderately steep slopes below the SW ridge on Stanton Mountain. The first pit varied from 90cm-142cm, with the ground being a mixture of bedrock, scree, grass. There was 8cm of windboard and the Turkey Day Crust was 87cm from the surface. Our second pit, located 200 feet away and further below the crest of the ridge, was 165cm, with the ground being grass. There was 2cm of windboard and the Turkey Day crust was 105cm from the surface. The first pits stability tests are noted on the pit graph, the second pit produced the following results: ECT12 @ 153cm, ECT13 @ 130cm, and ECT18 @ 125. We saw propagation below the windboard layer in the first pit, and we saw no propagation within any of the failures in the second pit.
