Traveled into the WMR backcountry with the US Border Patrol for a field portion of an Avalanche Level 1 course. We traveled up to the radio tower and observed snowpack conditions on both SE and N aspects. Overall, snowpack structure was similar on both aspects with differing height of snow and individual layer thickness. We observed snow thorughout the day near the summit and passed through the rain/ snow line at approx. 5200' this morning. No obvious signs of instability existed during our travels and visibility was limited due to fog/ low lying clouds.
Exited the west ski area boundary towards the radio tower.
