Snowpit Observations
More detailed information about the snowpack:

Spent two nights in the wam lookout cabin. Skinning up was a breeze. About 4-5" of powder on top of the Jan 19 layer. We found this layer to be very supportive even on solar aspects. Our pit at the summit was only 140 cm deep. The Jan 19 layer is definitely sitting on facets which is sitting on a very hard consolidated lower snowpack (knife). Was able to propagate the Jan 19 layer with moderate force in our compression tests. Stayed in the trees rode south facing slopes the ski quality was fantastic. First morning (Jan 26) we had an inversion which created 5-7mm sized surface hoar which was mostly destroyed by the sun during the day. Also observed a large glide crack developing on a west facing open slope which we stayed away from. Friday morning was socked in at the summit which caused the powder from the previous day to firm up from being baked in the sun the previous day. The ride down was fast! Noticeably softer snow above 6000'. Lower down has a bit of a crusty feel to it.
