Quick trip to Red Meadow area. Road is driveable to upper Whitefish Lake. Heavy rain crust up to about 5800 ft, above which conditions improve dramatically. Lots of wind effect on surface snow out in the open on most aspects but beautiful soft snow in the trees. Total snowpack at 6400 ft is 24-28". We saw a couple snowed over crown lines on north slopes.
