Overproduced

We went into the southern Whitefish Range to assess storm totals and see how the new snow is bonding to the underlying crust.

• By noon 5 inches of new snow fell. Moderate snowfall rates continued until our departure at around 130PM. 
• We triggered loose dry avalanches in steep terrain that was sheltered from the wind. These avalanches were fairly small due to the terrain we were in. I wouldn't be surprised that some would be large enough to bury a person if triggered on a steep slope with more than 1000 vertical feet.
• The area we traveled in is typically protected from southwest winds, so we did not get great feedback on developing wind slabs. We could hear the wind from time to time which makes me believe that wind slabs were forming throughout the day in typical wind-loaded areas.
