Not Greybird!

Skied in the central Middle Fork today between 3800 and 7200' under clearing skies, consistent light/moderate westerly winds, and warming temperatures. We observed no obvious signs of instability while touring today. 

• We found snow 6-10" of settled powder at all elevations on protected E and N aspects overlying a thin layer of facets above an old crust- We found 4-8" of settled powder on SE and S aspects that was warming up and consolidating throughout the day
• We observed some blowing snow along ridgelines that were forming thin (~4" max) wind slabs and avoided obviously wind-loaded terrain features
• We did not observe any buried surface hoar throughout our tour in a whole bunch of hand pits on a variety of elevations and aspects
• Winds were cranking in the high peaks with flag clouds and snow plumes seen all day along Flathead Ridge and the Continental Divide in the Park
• On solar slopes below 5500' the surface snow began to moisten and natural roller balls started to run by 3:30pm, allowing for easily ski-cuttable small (4-6") soft slabs to release on steep rollovers
• We were pretty amazed with the visibility offered today by mother nature and enjoyed the ridgeline skinning to its fullest!
