DOC but still better than not.

Today was about noting the slopes that had avalanched in the last cycle and looking at the snow surface before our next round of moisture.  We were lucky enough to be in the Northern Whitefish Range today.  

• We found avalanches aplenty on all aspects and most elevations.  Most were D2-D3 in size.  Areas above 7,000' seemed to have not participated in the cycle from 10 days ago.  
• I won't belabor any more discussion on the crust.  Suffice to say it is there, everywhere, all aspects and all elevations.  It is capped by 2-4 inches of light snow/surface hoar.
• We did note a glide crack that formed and failed at roughly 5500'.  Clancy and I looked at a crown on the same slope three weeks ago.  Photos below.
• There is well developed (2 cm) surface hoar on all aspects above 6000'.  Below that we did not observe any.
• We skied steep terrain and felt comfortable, but had the most enjoyable turns in the north facing trees with mellower slope angles.  The snow was plenty soft enough to provide for light turns and quick travel.
