Looming cornices and upper elevation fresh.

Today we went into the Flathead Range to try to gain more information on a possible recent avalanche off Mt. Cameahwait and to see how solid the freeze was overnight. The valley floor is still littered with evidence of the 2/1 Deep Slab and we couldn't find any obvious fresh piles of debris. Flat light and new snow made assessing debris piles and crown challenging. We did not access the crown due to overhead cornice hazard. 

• At upper elevations, we found 3 to 4 inches of new snow sitting on a breakable 1 inch melt-freeze crust. New snow accumulations quickly dissipated to 1 inch at mid and low elevations.
• Snow below the crust is still wet. I did not dig far to assess the depth of wet and moist snow. 
• On the route in we noted numerous loose wet debris piles on south facing paths from the recent warm-up. Most were D1s with one exception of a D2 size wet loose. 
• No obvious signs of instability.

Given the lack of instabilities and a recent surface crust, we felt comfortable skiing steep terrain with adequate spacing.
