Crack Hoar Part Deux

Our group traveled out along Skookoleel ridge to assess the loading over the surface hoar spotted yesterday.  In addition to noting 1-3 inches of wind drifted snow above yesterday's Surface Hoar we found wind slabbing on the ridge.  Big Mtn weather station reported wind speeds 11-13 mph but the ridge winds felt stronger and there were signs of significant transport.

• Wind slabs somewhere between touchy and reactive/isolated. Depended if surface hoar was preserved or destroyed by winds. Triggered one small slab (6-12 inches deep, 20 ft wide, ran 100 ft). Another result on a very small test slope we were able to propagate a small slab that did not run due to slope angle. 
• 1 to 2 inches of new snow. Period of S2 during out exit.
• Found buried surface hoar in a number of hand pits just out of range of wind affect and sun.
