Today our partied toured up Tranquil Basin with the intention of finding decent skiing on north facing sheltered slopes before the storm was to blow in. We skied slopes from 4500 to 7400 ft, in elevation. On the highway the temperature was at freezing level with calm winds when we left. There was about 1 inch of new, dense snow on the old skin track. Wind from the previous day had blown in some new snow on old tracks and the skin track up, but still only 1 new inch of, dense snow was found all the way to the top of Furlong. THe wind slabs from the day before had settled out and the surface was spongy and cohesive within the top 1 foot .We did not obseve any new wind slabs today. As expected the snow was fun to ski top to bottom on N facing aspects. The wind remained calm all day until we returned to the vehicle at 1600 when the storm was potentially developing. It started as dumping snow close to the divide and by Essex warmed into rain on the highway.
