Active wind loading and cornice formation

I traveled to the Apgar Range, which harbors the highest concentration of grizzly bears in the lower 48 during the autumn season.  

• At ridgeline elevations above 5300', moderate winds actively transported snow and formed fresh cornices. Cornices broke easily with minor stomping. Wind slab development was limited in the terrain I traveled but assume a different story slightly higher in elevation. 
• Rain crusts from earlier in the month are buried under 18" of snow at 5200'. Faceted weak snow between the crusts failed during small column tests.
• The snow quality on the descent between 5200' - 4100' was surprisingly superb. Below that elevation, the snow became moist and heavy.
• Loose-dry sluffing was common on steep slopes throughout the descent. If I was in more consequential terrain, sluff management techniques would have been necessary. 
• Continuous light snowfall in the morning, moderate snowfall in the afternoon, and heavy snowfall the last hour of the tour. Hooray!
