Wind sheltered terrain=best kind of terrain today.

Today’s objective was to travel into the southern end of our forecast area to assess wind slabs and see if recent faceted crusts were still causing issues. 

• Moderate to heavy snowfall and moderate winds were drifting snow and causing localized cracking at mid and upper elevations. 
• Cornices were reactive but did not produce any slab avalanches below.
• The wind drifted snow was slabby and hollow in areas, but still stubborn. Likely was a different story 1 hour after we left. 
• Numerous ski cuts and sled cuts on test slopes produced one tiny soft slab and some small shooting cracks. 
• Pit tests at mid-elevations produced propagating results above 2/5 crust. This is the same interface that was touchy earlier in the week 

We took this information and decided to seek out wind-sheltered terrain with slope angles 35 degrees and less. Not disappointed since this is where the best riding conditions were today.
