Went up Elk Mtn today on an East -Southeast spect up from the highway 2, dug a pit at 6170'. Descended shaded side of large avy path.
Roller balls as expected starting at about 1030 hours during the skin up
Stopped at 1200 hrs and dug a pit on an East/Southeast aspect. Found it to be largely right side up with progressively harder layers increasing toward the bottom - but found some soft (fist-4 finger) layers of 1-5 cm thickness lurking between the Christmas crust (about 93 cm from the ground) and HS 160 cm. Results: CT14Q3 @147 on graupel/new/old snow interface; CT 25Q2 at 93 on 1mm facets and ECTN 25 @ 115 .
