Persistent slab woes

Powder chasing in the S. Whitefish on my day off. Continue to find evidence of reactive persistent slabs about 3 feet thick above around 6,000' 

• While our one pit location did not give propagating results on the buried facet crust layers, the party breaking trail in front of us noted numerous collapses on their way up and at least one rumbling collapse that spanned an entire slope on their way down. This was on a 30 degree, south-facing slope around 6,500'.  
• Very little evidence of wind transport during the storm here, even near more exposed ridgelines. Trees all holding their snow and the snow surface is soft and uniform.  The storm snow appears to be unreactive now, and our primary concern was managing the deeper instabilities
• At the lower end of the mid-elevation band, there is a lot of vegetation disrupting weak layers and slabs: it seems instabilities are hard to find; the exceptions might be in a clear, unvegetated opening.  We felt comfortable skiing steeper terrain in areas with lots of brush and tree anchoring.
