Miserably windy

Near Marias Pass today, we found generally good stability and a few harmless wind slabs

• There was a dusting of new snow overnight on top of a poorly refrozen crust.
• Winds were strong to extreme. This kept the snow surface cool enough to stay frozen and occasionally drifted the little snow available for transport. The winds did not appear to be loading as much as ablating and swirling the snow.
• We found patchy drifts 1” to 3” thick and triggered a couple of keyboard-sized wind slabs. 
• On our drive through the Middle Fork, it appeared that last night’s snow line had fallen to about 4000’. By the time we returned, the snow line had risen at least 1000 feet, and it was raining lightly.
