Empty handed after the hunt

Hunting for wind slab and persistent slab instabilities today up to 7000’ on Grant Ridge but couldn’t find anything alarming.

• Snow surface was soft and relatively unaffected by wind, warming from solar in sunny aspects. Cornice drops, ski cuts on suspect features, and pits did not produce any noteworthy results.
• The persistent slab structure has the most concerning structural indices (lemons) around 5000’, as opposed to higher or lower in elevation, but it did not propagate in any tests or produce signs of instability.
• We skied steep terrain with no instabilities, but we avoided, consequential start zones with potential for wind loading and variable / thin snow coverage. 
• Evidence of numerous very large avalanches that ran to valley floor during the last avalanche cycle, debris piles in excess of 10-15'.
