Clear weather, blue skies, and virtually no wind surprised us this morning, after driving through low visibility and heavy winds.
We stuck to low angle sheltered trees on E and ENE aspects, which mostly had 6-8" of fresh low-density snow on top of more dense, but dry layers, at least above 6000 ft. Several loose-dry sloughs ran short distances on rollovers that tipped into the low 30 degree range. We did not dig.
W aspects presented shooting cracks and easily-propogating small windslabs (ie on kick turns), and variability from wind scoured surfaces (even in lower protected areas) to pockets of loading.
No observed no naturals on Radio Ridge or Mount Anaes. Significant wind affect was very obvious.
