Topics Class: Big Avalanches in Changing Climate in Northwest Montana

Topics Class: Big Avalanches in Changing Climate in Northwest Montana

We are excited to welcome back former FAC Director Dr. Erich Peitzsch for our next Topics workshop! He’s going to share recent research about how the frequency of large avalanches changes with the climate. We can’t wait to hear more about how he gathered this information from the rings of avalanche-impacted trees in Northwest Montana.

Erich is a Research Scientist with the U.S. Geological Survey in West Glacier, Montana, where he studies avalanches across the western U.S. and Alaska. His recent research looks at relationships between avalanche frequency and climate, wet snow avalanche dynamics, and snow depth changes across the landscape.
